Dressage and Event Rider
Classyblueblood (aka Moe) and I Schooling.
I grew up on Otter Creek Farm which has allowed me to be surrounded by horses since I was a young child. I learned to ride bareback at the age of 11 and started doing formal dressage and jumping at age 12. At 13 I was given my own horse, ClassyBlueBlood “Moe”. Moe was 2 ½ and green broke. I trained him to the Preliminary level by the time he was 9 and I was 19. This was my first horse to ever have been able to event and was completely trained and ridden by myself. I’ve also succeeded in training him to about a 4th level dressage horse. At the age of 16 I started to break out Otter Creek's young horses for them and have been priviledged to be on horses of great atheltism. However great athletism means great athletism- which means when the spooke, buck, rear, or whatever else the movements are big. I've developed sound techniques that minimize the amount of bucking and fights with the young horse, and a seat that when they do buck is not coming off. I’ve started horses that are out of top national and international stallions, such as LA Baltic Inspiration, Admiral (Kyra Kirklunds Atlanta Olympic mount), Briar (Jan Brinks 2 time Olympic mount and top 10 dressage stallion in the world).
I have started many horses in the last 10 years and feel confident that I’ve got the tools to successfully bring along a youngster to make it a great riding horse. I’ve worked with mares, geldings and stallions- and understand the unique challenges associated with each horse. The horses I’ve started have ranged from quick 15.3 hand horses to 17 hand lumbering giants. I've introduced many horses to cross country and have created many horses that are strong cross country horses.
I genuinally enjoy teaching-the horse and the rider. I think that I bring a compassion and ability to empathize with both horses and riders that allows horse and rider to trust me, feel challenged, but come out on the other side enjoying their new found skills.
I am especially fond of working with young riders, as I find that they have a unique energy and openess that I enjoy feeding off of while teaching. I've currently teaching riders from the begining levels through preliminary. Some of my students include Maura Daugherty, Liz Lund, Jen Johnson, Kendal Torrel, Donna Gerber, Karlene French, Sara Kate Pierro, Anna Pierro, Jean Pilla, Casey McCutcheon and many more.
